My past work in research, teaching, and storytelling have enabled me to empathize with others and create meaningful experiences for our ever-changing world.
Researcher
Student manager of Occidental’s rat lab & data analyst at MN Center for Twin & Family Research
Presented research at global conferences & published papers in peer reviewed journals
A researcher in life from choosing baby seats to colors for UI
With unknowns in advances with A.I. we need human-centered research
Story Teller
My personal journy began with many failures as a child growing up with learning disabilities - ADHD and Dyslexia. I was kicked out of middle school & almost failed to graduate from high school. But I persevered, learning how to adapt & make school work, graduating with honors from college and getting my Master's Degree. Growing up in a system that wasn’t built for people like me, has allowed me to be more conscientious and attuned in my work - it has increased my empathy and prepared me to be a UX Designer.
As a teacher for over 12 years, I published several curriculum sets for social studies that engage learners through the power of story. I also authored Justice By Design: Guide to Creating Curriculum for Social Justice.
I Believe that storytelling is an essential part of life - when describing your day to a loved one; when preparing meals for friends and family; or when designing a the psychical space for a classroom of high school students or an oasis in my back yard.
Manager
Managed teams of 10 special educators and paraprofessionals along with classrooms of up to 30 high school students.
Managed projects such as Special Education evaluations from start to finish, coordinating numerous stakeholders and meeting required legal timelines.
Managed programs including Special Education programs at HCHS and co-directing the first-ever alternative teacher licensure program in MN at LDA.
Problem Solver
I Led the Problem-Solving Process for hundreds of students as a Special Education Teacher & Coordinator for over eight years. Each student case study included:
Gathering quantitative and qualitative data to identify and define problems. Brainstorming potential solutions as a team addressing root causes and potential symptoms for each problem or pain point. Designing and implementing plans. Finally reviewing the outcome data and iterating as necessary. This experience directly translates to the UX/UI problem sovling deisgn process: research, define, ideate, prototype, test, and spiral towards the future.
